SEADEEP kick-off: digital and energy-efficient solutions for the EU aquatic food sector

EATiP was in Copenhagen for the kick-off of SEADEEP, a new EU-funded Horizon Europe project (HORIZON-MISS-2025-03) advancing digital and energy-efficient solutions for Europe’s aquatic food sector — including aquaculture.

SEADEEP

SEADEEP (Sustainable Energy Advancement through Digitalisation for Energy Efficient Production in Aquaculture and Fisheries) aims to accelerate the transition towards sustainable, low-carbon aquatic food production systems. The project will test and deliver 16 innovative solutions (TRL 6–8) across nine demonstration sites in the North Sea and the Baltic, ensuring these innovations are scalable, adaptable and directly relevant to industry needs.

For aquaculture, this includes:

  • Macroalgae farming — one large-scale energy-efficient solution and two advanced digital solutions to optimise production and resource use;
  • Recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) — one large-scale energy-efficient installation alongside eight digital solutions to enhance monitoring, control and efficiency.

Alongside supporting the SUBMARINER Network for Blue Growth with communication, dissemination and exploitation, EATiP will work with Food & Bio Cluster Denmark on market uptake, exploitation and policy recommendations — to turn project results into a genuine legacy and impact.

We look forward to working with partners old and new, including EATiP members AZTI and Eurofish International Organisation, and coordinator IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute.
